Flash was a long time ago and Waid's recent stuff has been hit/miss.

We all, me included, look back on Waid's Flash run very favorably but that was: (1) a very long time ago, and (2) a different market.

DD under Bendis/Rucka wasn't a shiney tights superhero. I am worried that Waid will try to make him happy/cheery and people aren't going to respond.Leenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33311991.post-66609253700699779502011-03-21T08:39:49.046-04:002011-03-21T08:39:49.046-04:00As for the characters being around for 50 yrs, I t...As for the characters being around for 50 yrs, I think part of the problem is the medium wasn't set up this way. Comics were meant to be disposable and fun. Read a story then move on. The problem arises when readers never leave, like most of us here. Jim has been reading Daredevil for 50 yrs, it makes sense that he's seen almost any story about the character that can/has been done.

Heck, I've been reading for... less than 50 and I think I have seen/read all the DD stories.

Dom, you pointed out a good Spiderman story that WASN'T about Spiderman. That's a different animal. I think we would all be happier without the inbread continuity and just good stories.Leenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33311991.post-6688236802145146762011-03-21T07:59:11.084-04:002011-03-21T07:59:11.084-04:00Well, I might actually check out a couple of Marve...Well, I might actually check out a couple of Marvel books.Thommhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17179697516506456548noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33311991.post-72457582414597876702011-03-21T00:57:08.531-04:002011-03-21T00:57:08.531-04:00I am fine with Rucka and cautiously optimistic abo...I am fine with Rucka and cautiously optimistic about Waid on DD. I love his Flash and in the last few years he has shown himself to be quite versatile.

Waid stated he's keeping the street-level fighting but upping the adventure factor. (Ex. DD jumping headlong into a fight he is not ready for.) He is illuminating the noir elements. I like the idea that Matt thinks he can come back and move forward while the supporting cast do not trust him. I am also intrigued by the way Waid states Matt will be practicing law. (He said in an unconventional way.)

I hope they get him hooked up with Dakota and Waid really builds Matt up in a different way. The two rotating artists on DD are promising. Let's hope.Shawnhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03026335818721649588noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33311991.post-85831697393032869162011-03-20T20:55:17.036-04:002011-03-20T20:55:17.036-04:00Dom - I'll grant you that it can be done, but ...Dom - I'll grant you that it can be done, but it just seems like you get new life when you changed things up like Bucky being Captain America and Dick and Damian as Batman and Robin.

And as you said, since we are comic readers, nothing is impossible.Jimhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00352163584546054887noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33311991.post-54460512609348632122011-03-20T20:52:51.636-04:002011-03-20T20:52:51.636-04:00Matthew - You are right and in fact DC should be r...Matthew - You are right and in fact DC should be reprinting that in a deluxe format. I would love to have that run as a hard cover. Look what Grant Morrison did with All-Star Superman 65 years after the character was created.

I think good writers can also find a small part in the character's lore and base good ideas around that. Joe Kelley, for example, took an old kind of boring character like the Rhino, in the Amazing Spider-Man #617, and made readers care about him. This is an example of writers doing something readers may have thought impossible.

Come on now! You're a comic reader...nothing is impossible.

(Note:You never wrote "impossible", but it seemed implied.)Domhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09798572972396500327noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33311991.post-78874501552466099192011-03-20T19:19:48.489-04:002011-03-20T19:19:48.489-04:00Mark's run on the Flash was definitive (no pun...Mark's run on the Flash was definitive (no pun intended)!

Marcos Martin on DD sounds awesome too.

As long as DD doesn't go bad (or crazy) again anytime soon that would be a good thing.Matthewhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03894454259041852707noreply@blogger.com
