The fight against the Adverseary had been going on for centuries and was really a small band fighting against an empire. The Adversary was the impetus to the empire but it had many agents and actors furthering it for their own ends. The Dark Man was a recent foe who was freed as a result of the fall of the empire. While the Adversary wanted to conquer all the fables the Dark Man wanted to kill them all for using his powers while he was imprisoned. <br /><br />Fables already gave you a drawn out fight with the Dark Man when Frau Totenkinder fought him a few issues ago. That was a pyrrhic victory, while this time he appears to have been captured securely, if not permanently.
