So, the adventure has begun. The wife and I left the other day and flew to Geneva, Switzerland! From there, it was on to lovely Chalon Sur Saone, France. There are far too many stories to tell in just one sitting so you will probably get little “Daily Life, The French Week” all week long.
Actually, the adventure began as we left the house. The children had been sad for several days because we were going away, but they pulled out all the stops as we were getting into the car to go to the airport. The kids told Wife they would miss her. It was quite the production. Each child, as if going to the gallows, slowly walked up to Mommy and said goodbye.
Wife started to get sniffly.
Then each child decided to tell Mommy they were going to miss her one last time and the parade resumed. Boy went first, and as he said goodbye, his eyes were misty.
Wife was definitely sniffly.
Girl went second, and as she gave Mommy a hug, a few tears slowly crept down her cheeks.
Wife was obviously holding back tears.
Tiny was last, and was openly sobbing, and gasping, with both tears and snot running down her face.
Wife by this point was openly crying. She quickly went to the car and got in.
I turned to the kids, wondering how many hugs and tears I would get.
They all looked at me and, almost in unison, “See ya, Dad. Bring us back something cool!” Then they ran back off to watch tv.
What was that???? Dad didn’t get sh*t!
Anyway, the rest of the trip was uneventful and we arrived safely. More later.
Shocking! On the other hand, I guess it shows they know who to manipulate in what way. Perceptive little buggers, aren't they?
ReplyDeleteDad's are essentially offensive lineman, we do the job well and get a little praise from the kids, normally on Father's Day. Screw up, like allowing a sack, and you will be infamous.
ReplyDeleteI like the offensive lineman analogy. The other explanation I heard was...
ReplyDeleteWives get credit for good kids.
Dads get credit for good houses.
Chris Rock explained this best...Dad's don't get nuthin' but the big piece of chicken at dinner.
ReplyDeleteWhen's the last time you heard an athlete, oscar winner, etc thank their Dad?
