Comic Covers Sunday: 4th of July Version

In honor of the upcoming holiday, this week focuses on patriotic covers.  I would have gone with 4th of July covers but that turned out to be far more complicated that I would have liked.  So, these covers are all based on pictures of flags or the American Revolution.

Fight For Freedom, 1949.
Ok, I know nothing about this book.  It's a public service announcement about the 4th of July so it's the lead off book this week.

Below the break... more covers of books you have never seen!

Superman #14, Jan-Feb 1942
What collection of patriotic comic book covers would be complete without this one.  This is one of the all time classics.

America In Action, Winter 1945
And now for great moments in American history:
... the fight for independence with a young patriot, YAHOOO
... the fires at Valley Forge, YAHOOO
... the fires of a burning witch, YA... ewwwwww.

All American Hippie Comix, 1994
Oddly enough for a comic that is almost 20 yrs old, this seems more timely than ever.

National Comics #19, January 1942
This is new to me but I think this is the best of the bunch at summing up what it's all about.

That's all folks, now go enjoy your Sunday and have a great 4th of July!

  1. That's one freaky looking kid on that National Comics cover. He looks more like a vetriloquist's dummy than a person. I think it's the eyes. Why won't they stop boring into me?

  2. I have a copy of that "Fight For Freedom" book. Years ago, Overstreet used to list that book but I can't find it now. Been out of the hobby for years. Has Overstreet stopped listing giveaways or something?

    1. Overstreet still lists many of the give aways but maybe not all. The shear number of books published makes me believe some of the rarer ones (like FFF) are getting left out.

You are the only person I know whose actually seen the book.

      Was it any good?
