Dark Shadows turns 60 today!!!

Today marks the 60th anniversary of the airing of Dark Shadows episode 1 from 1966 June 27.  Or, as streamers would recognize it, Dark Shadows Beginnings episode 1.  Even though Barnabas won't show up for another 200+ episodes, those early ones are great.  Read about my initial enthusiasm here.

I finally purchased the legit complete series boxset from MPI not too long ago.  And it's the perfect time to restart the series, which I've completed at least twice (and some change). You see, I had to take a break because I didn't want to watch a week's worth of commercials by streaming it again.

Dark Shadows has given me hours of entertainment enjoyment, and not just from watching the series.  There's the music soundtrack, where my favorite tracks are the five from the Blue Whale jukebox (from Disc Two):

There is the 90s Revival series, which suffers from shooting Day for Night in too many scenes, but is still well done and looks gorgeous.  There are the two movies, "House of..." and "Night of...".  They may be flawed, but certainly well worth watching for fans.  I even got to visit the Lyndhurst Mansion last summer.  There are books, comics, and books about the show, etc.

Plus, I've got signatures from Kathryn Leigh Scott, the late Lara Parker, and David Selby. [Maggie and Quentin are my two favorite characters.]  Sadly, I've never met any of them in person, but Kathryn personalized my book order as if she was writing as Maggie Evans (scripted by me). And David's CD of poems about his mother's death (seen in the first picture above) is very moving and humanizing.  So much so that I've been enjoying his other major acting roles from Super Cops to Falcon Crest.  I have the groovy Film Score Monthly soundtrack of the former, and have been watching Falcon Crest as my main show lately.  I'm currently on Season 6, episode 22.  It's so good!!  I even named my "new" car Selby after him.

Well, I just wanted to celebrate the 60th anniversary.  I think I'll do some parallel timing myself, by starting with episodes 1 and  611, splitting the series in two parts.  I better get started...

Just think we're just over two months away from the 60th anniversary of Star Trek (1966 Sep 08).  1966 was a great year for cultural phenomena!  Which crazily reminds me of this song. Get it...phe nom mena.  I amuse myself sometimes. : )
