DC Preview Review For April Part 2 of 2

PART 2 as promised!

FIRST WAVE HC
Written by BRIAN AZZARELLO
Art by RAGS MORALES and PHIL NOTO
Cover by J.G. JONES
Doc Savage, struggling with the loss of his father, has been blind to the advances of an evil cabal bent on world domination – until now. Central City’s mysterious Spirit has caught wind of their plans as well. But whose side have the Blackhawks chosen? What is the Red Right Hand? And where is The Batman?
This can’t-miss pulp fiction hardcover features FIRST WAVE #1-6 and BATMAN/DOC SAVAGE #1.
On sale JUNE 22 • 256 pg, FC, $29.99 US

Jim: I’m getting this for Rags’ art more than anything else and a hope that Azzarello’s series will read better as a whole and not spread over too many months.
Gwen: Hopefully Jim is right and this story works better as a whole. It wasn’t bad but nothing that really wowed me as a monthly series.

INFINITY INC.: THE GENERATIONS SAGA VOL. 1 HC
Written by ROY THOMAS and DANN THOMAS
Art by JERRY ORDWAY, MIKE MACHLAN, TONY DEZUNIGA, DON NEWTON, TODD MCFARLANE and others
Cover by JERRY ORDWAY
Shunned by their parents and mentors in the Justice Society of America, Infinity, Inc. is a team made up of the best and brightest new heroes from the next generation of DC Comics.
Collected at last from INFINITY INC. #1-4, ALL-STAR SQUADRON #25-26 and ALL-STAR SQUADRON ANNUAL #2, INFINITY INC. follows the adventures of the Justice Society of America’s sons and daughters as they pick up the role of crime-fighters from their parents. Denied membership by the JSA, the young cast of Infinity Inc. decides to train themselves – including heroes Power Girl, Huntress, Jade, Obsidian, Nuklon and more!
On sale JUNE 22 • 192 pg, FC, $39.99 US

Jim: 192 Pages for $40, when the previous book is 256 pages for $30. Personally I think something is screwy somewhere. Also starting over Infinity Inc with only four issues seems wrong. I want this book to be issues #1-#10, which if memory serves was the first arc.
Gwen: This does seem really expensive for four issues of a comic series even as a hardcover. It’s a shame to because if memory serves these are some pretty good stories.

LEGION LOST HC
Written by DAN ABNETT and ANDY LANNING
Art by OLIVIER COIPEL, PASCAL ALIXE and ANDY LANNING
Cover by OLIVIER COIPEL
The Legion of Super-Heroes finds itself stranded in a distant galaxy, on the home planet of the vicious alien race known as the Progeny, in this new hardcover collecting the cult favorite 12-issue epic. While some of our heroes struggle to repair their damaged spaceship, the rest attempt to forge an alliance with the peaceful Kwai. But can the Legion help the Kwai defeat their oppressors and still make their way back home to Earth?
On sale JUNE 15 • 296 pg, FC, $39.99 US

Jim: Long overdue, one of the better stories done with the Legion after the Levitz/Giffen years.
Gwen: Yay! Good Legion stories :)

PLANETARY/BATMAN DELUXE EDITION HC
Written by WARREN ELLIS
Art and cover by JOHN CASSADAY
Planetary, the archaeologists of the unknown, cross paths with Batman on the trail of a killer in this new, Deluxe Edition hardcover.
When Planetary — Jakita Wagner, Elijah Snow and the Drummer — travel to Gotham City, they mean business. Wagner, Snow and the Drummer track an amoral killer to Gotham City, prepared for battle.
What they aren’t prepared for is the Dark Knight! Of course, Batman doesn’t exist on the same Earth as Planetary, which means the killer has worked in some very strange ways! Now the killer’s reality-distorting technology is pulling, twisting and shifting the heroes through untold versions of Gotham City – and Batman!
This new hardcover also features Warren Ellis’s script for this story.
On sale JUNE 1 • 96 pg, FC, 7.0625” x 10.875”, $22.99 US

Jim: No way am I buying a hardcover for $23 for a reprint of a one-shot. 96 pages for $23, for-get-it.
Gwen: Ah the one issue hardcover. How silly.

AMERICAN VAMPIRE #14
Written by SCOTT SNYDER
Art and cover by RAFAEL ALBUQUERQUE
The war in the Pacific rages on! Henry and the crew storm the shores of a remote island with a secret at its core. But the island’s secrets are nothing compared to what Skinner has up his sleeve. Meanwhile, our gal Pearl sets out on a desperate mission of her own . . .
On sale APRIL 27 • 32 pg, FC, $2.99 US • MATURE READERS

Jim: This is fast becoming one of my favorite series. I love all the characters and Snyder is already a master at the craft of comic book writing.
Gwen: Well I can’t say I love all the characters but I definitely enjoy this series. It’s such a great take on vampires outside of the normal spectrum.

WE3 DELUXE EDITION HC
Written by GRANT MORRISON
Art and cover by FRANK QUITELY
For the first time in hardcover, a powerful tale from the ALL-STAR SUPERMAN team of Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely!
Morrison and Quitely deliver the emotional journey of WE3 – three house pets weaponized for combat by the government – as they search for “home” and ward off the shadowy agency that created them.
With nervous systems amplified to match their terrifying exoskeletons, the members of Animal Weapon 3 (WE3) have the firepower of a battalion. But as prototypes, they’re slated to be permanently “decommissioned” after their testing is complete, causing them to make a desperate run for freedom. Relentlessly pursued by their makers, WE3 must navigate a frightening world where their heightened abilities make them as much a threat as those hunting them – but a world in which they must find a home.
This amazing hardcover features new story pages by Morrison and Quitely.
On sale JUNE 15 • 144 pg, FC, 7.0625” x 10.875”, $24.99 US • MATURE READERS

Jim: Now this is a tad on the pricey side also, but WE3 was such a great tale, I will buy this one.
Gwen: We3 was interesting but not something I feel the need to revisit.
